The Truth About MSG
What effects does MSG have on diet, obesity, health and food cravings?
Because MSG is absorbed very quickly in the gastrointestinal tract (unlike glutamic acid-containing proteins in foods), MSG could spike blood plasma levels of glutamate. Glutamic acid is in a class of chemicals known as excitotoxins, high levels of which have been shown in animal studies to cause damage to areas of the brain unprotected by the blood-brain barrier and that a variety of chronic diseases can arise out of this neurotoxicity.

MSG gives me migraines every time I eat it. I have to read labels carefully and ask before I eat at any Chinese Food Restaurant. Luckily, fewer are using than before. I love Chinese Food.
ReplyDeleteExellent post! I avoid MSG, HVP, and autolyzed yeast extract like the plague when shopping for groceries--even natural and organic processed foods can contain free glutamic acid derivatives.
ReplyDeleteRestaurants of all kinds use MSG in marinades, dressings, soups, and sauces. We don't eat out much, and feel much healthier when we don't.
Scary, but so true.
